Can I cancel or change my trip because of the cyclone?

If you bought your policy before 4 March, 2025, you may be able to claim for Amendment or Cancellation Costs if your travel plans are directly affected by Tropical Cyclone Alfred (subject to the terms and conditions of your policy).

  • This includes the non-refundable portion part of pre-paid, unused travel costs, as well as trip changes you made before departing. Important: the cost of rearrange your trip can’t be more than what it would have cost to cancel the trip outright.
Is there cover for accommodation and flight cancellations because of the cyclone?

If you bought your policy before 4 March 2025, and your accommodation and flights are cancelled because of Tropical Cyclone Alfred, you may be able to claim for the non-refundable part of pre-paid, unused travel costs. Your policy’s terms and conditions will apply.

If you bought your policy on or after 4 March 2025, there is no cover for claims arising from Tropical Cyclone Alfred under your policy.

I have not yet bought travel insurance. Can I buy a new policy to cover cancellations because of the cyclone? 

If you bought your policy on or after 4 March 2025, it won’t cover claims arising from Tropical Cyclone Alfred, because this no longer considered an unforeseeable event. This means any new policy you buy from 4 March 2025 onwards won’t cover flight or accommodation cancellations because of the incoming cyclone. If you decide to change your travel plans, we encourage you to speak with your travel agent or transport provider as soon as possible, to minimise your out-of-pocket expenses.

My travel date is in the future. What happens if the airport is closed on my travel date?  

If you bought your policy before 4 March 2025, and your travel plans are directly impacted by Tropical Cyclone Alfred, you may be able to claim additional accommodation and transport expenses if your travel is delayed. Your policy’s terms and conditions will apply.

I am due to go on a cruise. Will I have cover if my cruise is cancelled because of the cyclone?

If you bought your policy before 4 March 2025, and your cruise was directly impacted by Tropical Cyclone Alfred, you may be able to claim for Amendment or Cancellation Costs. This includes the non-refundable part of pre-paid, unused travel costs, as long as you have the appropriate level of Cruise Cover  on your policy. Your policy’s terms and conditions will apply.

Will I have cover if I need to cancel my trip because the cyclone damaged my  property?  

If you bought your policy before 4 March 2025, and your travel plans are directly impacted by Tropical Cyclone Alfred, you may be able to claim additional accommodation and transport expenses if your travel is delayed. Your policy’s terms and conditions will apply.

I am already on a trip. Will I have cover if I need to go home early because the cyclone damaged my property?

If you bought your policy before 4 March 2025, and your travel plans are directly impacted by Tropical Cyclone Alfred (e.g. you need to travel home urgently because the cyclone has damaged your property), you may be able to claim additional accommodation and transport expenses.
